I first started writing on FanFiction.net, which does not allow "adults only" content, so the idea of writing something like that was not ever on my mind. After a bit, I decided to expand my reach by cross-posting to Archive of Our Own. While not part of the plan, this meant I could now choose to write adult stuff if I so desired.

I'd had a bunch of such plots trapped in the thoughtspace for a while, so naturally I started to think on whether any of them were actually worth doing something with. Well, there was this one Melia/Shulk encounter that did a bit of glimpsing at behind-the-scenes High Entia culture and biology. That could be worth something.

So, this fic appeared. It's naturally disproportionately popular just because of that "E" rating, but I happen to think it stands up outside of just the meaning behind that icon. While it's an AU, it opens with a potential missing scene from the game, and all the lore in it is "real" within my fanon-verse.

• Originally there was no cover art at all, since I only made such for ff.net (where this fic cannot exist). Once I started this website, I threw something together based on the letter Shulk receives.
