Long ago in the before-time, Riki was my favourite XC1 character. This didn't last long but it was still real, and I still enjoy assigning him headcanons and backstory more than most other characters. So eventually the idea popped up of "write a Riki fic", and so it was done.
But this wasn't the fic that was expected. Its backstory is minimal, instead just mostly going over the events of in-game as Riki saw them. Somehow, that's what made more sense to write at the time.

Notes & Trivia
- I tried to establish that Riki calls himself "Heropon" or "Riki" depending on the context, as if they are two different personas.
- Pon Depot (Home Depot) is somehow one of the funniest brands. Ponsbury's (Sainsbury's) and Timtim's (Tim Hortons) less so.
- I took very deliberate effort to make it clear that Riki knows very well everyone's proper name, and proceeds to Noponise it anyway.
- Riki did not in fact know before the others that Melia was a princess. He probably did know she was half-blooded though, and just didn't think it was a big deal.
- The jury's out on whether Riki thought Shulk giving the Monado to Mumkhar was actually a plan, or just something he made up for the story so Shulk didn't look like a moron. On one hand Riki's not stupid, but on the other I do think that if he thought it was a plan at the time, he wouldn't go back and think that maybe it wasn't.
- Obviously Riki's exaggerating his part. He probably wouldn't be if it weren't just his children in earshot.
- The ending is how Nene and Kino got started.
